 What is Dott 07?  Register

18 days to go until the Dott 07 Festival opens in Baltic Square, Gateshead Quayside. The festival will be open daily 10:00 - 18:00, from 16 - 28 October, and it's FREE ENTRY!

Collect stamps as you travel through the six zones of the festival and collect your FREE copy of the Dott 07 Manual written by John Thackara. Stocks are limited, so it's first come first served. The manual looks at how Dott 07 projects could help shape a sustainable future.

Why not start off with a trip into the world of sustainable tourism? The world's first ever eco-friendly urban campsite will open for 5 nights only during the festival. You can be one of the first to sleep under the stars, below Byker Bridge in Newcastle upon Tyne. It's £15 per person, per night - in a two person tent. If you're really eager, you could try out the solar power shower. Don't forget your sleeping bag! Check out the Dott website next week for booking details.

We're looking for volunteers to help during the festival. If you have the time, the qualities and would like to get involved contact Georgia or Cara.

Energy Zone at the festival Calling All Groups Movement Dilemma

Energy! Energy! Energy! We all use it, need it, love it - but how do we sustain this relationship without contributing to global climate change? We know the story: burning finite fossil fuels emits harmful gases, so just how do we reduce our dependency on them? The Dott 07 Energy Zone aims to provide some answers to this urgent question.

In a funky, original space designed by artist Bethan Laker, we will be treated to the trip of a lifetime that promises to push anyone’s footprint knowledge off the Richter scale.

We are offering educational, guided tours and activity workshops FREE to school and community groups in the region at the Dott 07 Festival.
We want your group to come along, have fun and be inspired to start your own projects. With six exciting zones there's plenty to fuel hungry imaginations.

Guided tours run 10:00-12:00 and 12:30-14:30, through-out the festival. Activity sessions are packed with ideas and suggestions on how to live healthier, happier, more sustainable lives! Contact Cara to book: 0782 456 9741

Join the movement debate at the BALTIC on Thursday 18 October, 13:00 - 16:00.

The session begins with a keynote from Anthony Townsend, research director at the Institute of the Future in Palo Alto, California, who asks: "must we keep on moving?". We'll also discuss Dott 07 project's Move Me, Sustainable Tourism, Welcomes and Mapping the Necklace.

The Movement Dilemma debate is FREE but you must book your place. This one of six Dott Debates taking place during the festival.

Energiser Stelarc Ready, steady, cook at Middlesbrough's Town Meal
Schools Zone at the festival - ECO Design Challenge Stelarc Talk, Tuesday 9 October, Centre for Life Food and Art Make Peace in Middlesbrough

The Schools Zone will be buzzing with free workshops for school pupils of all ages and things-to-do for all the family. The zone will have a designated Activity Area that will host a fantastic programme of events centered on the results of the Dott 07's Eco Design Challenge.

This inspired project involved over 15,000 students and teachers from the region designing sustainable alternatives to some of the systems currently operating in their schools.

The five finalist schools are up for the Eco Design Challenge Awards where they will pitch their ‘sustainable solutions’ to an esteemed panel of judges.

Come along to the Centre for Life on Tuesday 9 October and listen to Australian peformance artist Stelarc discuss his work including his latest creation 'Walking Head' - a six-legged walking robot.
Stelarc's work explores and extends the concept of the human body and its relationship with technology.

The FREE talk starts at 18:00. Spaces are limited, so you must book. Contact: Hayley at Centre for Life 0191 243 8269.

See Stelarc's 'Walking Head' at the Centre for Life, Times Square, Newcastle upon Tyne, from 8 - 26 October.

Presented in collaboration with Amino and funded by the Centre for Life.

Sandwiched between a wet Friday and a wet Monday, the Gods were smiling on Middlesbrough for Urban Farming's Town Meal last Saturday.

Vegetables which have been sprouting in homes, streets, school yards and community centres, for the past eight months, were ceremoniously harvested and shared with the community in the town’s Centre Square as the finale to the urban farming project.

Come along to the Food Zone at the festival and hear stories from the people involved in the project. Rumour has it there will be vegetables growing behind Baltic Square and there could be some live cooking demonstrations!
