 What is Dott 07?  Register

Dott 07 (Designs of the time 2007) is a year of community projects, events and exhibitions based in North East England that explore what life in a sustainable region could be like – and how design can help us get there.

The ECO Design Challenge received a fantastic and inspiring collection of entries from Year 8 students. The best innovative ideas will be shortlisted for the next stage. Designers will visit schools to help students develop their briefs further. We'll announce the shortlist on 26 March.

This month's Explorers Club investigated indicators for a sustainable region and climate forecasting. The next Explorers Club will take place in May, in Durham, as part of Mapping the Necklace.

The Dott 07 team arrived back from Doors 9: Juice with smiles on their faces and colour in their hair.

Design Camp Call for Participants Low Carb Lane New Urban Farmers (NUF)

Would you like the opportunity to be part of an international design camp to develop sustainable tourism ideas for (and with) specific North East locations and communities?

Design Camp, 12 July - 21 July, is open to young designers, senior students and early career professionals, visual artists, architects and young professionals in related creative fields, from all countries.

The project is a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and practice with designers and artists from other countries, and develop a real-life, sustainable project.

Low Carb Lane are looking for a family to move in to their eco-friendly property in East Ashington, Northumberland.

Work has started on renovating the two-bedroom house. The new tenants will be asked to open the door to show others how to live a greener life and save money on fuel bills.

If you are interested in becoming the family of Low Carb Lane contact: Janet or Sanchia on 01670 854 422, or pop in for an application pack to East Ashington Development Trust, 82 Beatrice Street, Ashington, Northumberland.

Starting in April, the Tees Valley town of Middlesbrough will go fruit and veg crazy.

Patients in hospitals, school kids and farmers working on the periphery of Middlesbrough have all now signed up to grow food in containers across town. Over a thousand people are due to take part.

The project has now secured the necessary support from One North East, Middlesbrough Council and development company Bioregional Quintain and will be delivered by local agencies, including Groundwork South Tees and Middlesbrough Primary Care Trust.

Move Me Mapping the Necklace OurNewSchool

Move Me in Scremerston, Northumberland looks for ways to improve transport provision within this small rural community. Move Me is investigating how best to use public and private transport resources in a radically more efficient way, and thereby make it easier and more energy efficient for people to get around.

The first round of ‘travel activity packs’ were handed out to pupils of Scremerston First School to help build a picture of how and why they travel the way they do. See some of the results in the Dott 07 blog!

Can you roam a park which doesn't really exist? Can you map trails, places, senses that are ephemeral?

Join us, and other spies, geeks, performers and lone rangers in mapping the Durham Necklace Park on 5 - 7 May. Connect with teams to track, create, design and compose along Durham City’s 12 miles of river-linked experience.

We're looking for people to help map everything from birds to bikes, families to food, music to meandering, playwork to Parkour… visit Mapping the Necklace now!

OurNewSchool brings together a whole variety of people to learn, share thoughts, discover opportunities and come up with new ideas to improve people's experiences of being at school.

The co-design team have been busy at Walker Technology College running workshops and gathering insights. One workshop looked at how people use - but also how and where people waste their time at school.

Next week, Julia and Joe, will be back at Walker to to gain more in-depth insights into 'vocational learning'.
